Madness Monday: Tuesday edition

Sorry I didn't post my crazy weekend news story yesterday but I was busy.

On Christmas Eve, predominant Dallas pastor, Sandra McGriff was arrested while robbing the home of one of her church goers. She was caught by a neighbor who saw her enter the house through a broken window. When the police arrived she was loading fur coats, designer purses and electronics (all worth about $10,000) into her car.

She claims that she was driving by the house when she saw two burglars enter the house and she decided to follow them through the window.

When the police confronted her, she used a fake name and then attacked the officers! She claims that she was on pain pills and didn't know what she was doing... WHAT A LOAD OF B.S.!!

This women is... WAS... a well respected religious head in her community BUT cops found that she had a criminal record for prostitution and fraud! Her parishioners looked to her for guidance but it seems to me that what they were getting was a lie. I understand that people turn their lives around all of the time but apparently this woman was not yet one of those people!

What has our country come to when we have to question whether or not our church pastor is an honest human being. In this crazy world many people seek solace in church, they go for answers and life guidance. Where do you go when that person you once trusted turns out to be a dishonest criminal?

Not only do I believe this women committed this stupid crime but I believe she knew full well what she was doing and then lied about being on pain medication... even if she was on pain meds, SO WHAT!! Millions of people take heavy pain medication everyday and you don't see them burglarizing peoples homes. I think I would have had just a little (just a smige) more respect for her if she would have said "Man, I funked (spelled wrong intentionally) up. I don't know what I was thinking". Now she has to answer to her boss the Big Man!!

What do you think? Is she a big fat liar or did the pain meds really overtake her mind?

Madness Monday: 1st edition

So I have decided to give my blog a bit of direction. A few days a week I will make an on going themed post and I have decided that Mondays will now be know as Madness Monday. On Madness Monday I will give a quick synopsis on a crazy news story from over the weekend.

Here is a news story from this weekend that made my jaw drop: Women Killed by Pot-Hole

A man and his wife and their two kids were driving along I-20 headed home to South Carolina in their Ford pick-up truck. Another women was driving in the opposite direction on the freeway when she hit a pot hole and sent a chuck of pavement flying through the air. No one knew how big the chunk was but it put a hole the size of a football in the truck windshield, injuring the wife, who died the next day.

Crazy!! Just think about all the things some people do to stay alive for as long a possible. Health nuts who don't eat a single artificial thing and exercise for hours a day... but the reality of it is, no one can confidently say that he will still be living tomorrow.

I know that the title of my blog is "Life: It goes on" and some will think that my last statement contradicts that but this isn't true. We are all going to die but until then I believe we should do the things that make us happy, things that bring smiles to our faces and to the faces of the people we love. The way I see it, all of these health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing and I can bet a few of them will have some regrets.

That's just my two cents.

The Final Count Down! (and an introduction to my pets)

10 days and counting until Hubs and I leave this God forsaken island! Last week the moving company came and packed up all our household items so we are currently living on an air mattress in our living room. Our only real form of entertainment is out laptop and Netflix subscription.

If you don't have Netfilx I highly recommend it. We have recently started watching the Showtime series Dexter and we love it. Warning: Dexter is not suitable for children or those with a faint heart or weak stomach.

I know that this show has been around for a few years but to those who haven't seen it yet, here is my little breakdown:
Dexter is a forensic investigator with the Miami Police Department, he is also a serial killer. He kills criminals that get away with murder and then chops them up and throws them into the ocean. He spends his life trying to keep his secret from the people who love him and does everything in his power to not get caught. It's a great show and hubby and I really enjoy it!

Now in other news:
Work is really creeping by. Because I am leaving so soon, I really have nothing left to do at work so I just sit around and twiddle my thumbs. Of course they won't let me go home and try to accomplish the list of crap I have to do there. That's the US Navy for ya!
Last week we found a realtor in North Carolina that is helping us find a short term rental that won't reject our dogs. So far he has been an amazing help. In fact it looks like he found us a place! Its a two story house on the outskirts of Jacksonville and the property owner has no issues what-so-ever with our dogs. We are really hoping everything works out with this place so we can have one less thing to worry about!
Speaking of our dogs, it is going to cost a butt load to put them on the plane. The two big ones will be $200 each and the wiener dog is coming on board the plane with me and that is costing $125. I can't believe I have to pay that much for her as a carry on... it's outrageous!
I have been talking about my fur children a lot lately so I figured its time to introduce you. Here are some pictures:

This is Lady-Bird and Booker. Lady-Bird was our first dog. We adopted her from the humane society and we were told that she may be Golden Retriever-Mix. She is very sweet and she loves to cuddle. She also enjoys wrestling with Booker.

Booker was the third addition to our family. We got him from a friend who wasn't able to care for him anymore. He is a German Short Haired Pointer/ Pit Bull mix. He is soooo adorable and loves to play and cuddle. He thinks he's a lap dog and he loves to lick your face! He also gives pretty good hugs!

This is Lady-Bird and Vienna sharing the kennel. I don't have very good pictures of Vienna because she HATES the camera... if you even point a lens at her, she runs and hides. It's pretty funny. Vienna is a Dachshund. She is pretty old (we think around 11 or 12 years) and we found her on craigslist. She likes to sleep in the bed with us under the covers or just above our heads on our pillows. Her favorite treat is cheese and she loves to take car rides!

If you would like to leave a comment with a short introduction to your pets I would love to read them! I love to see what kind of personalities pet owners associate with their pets!

Breed Restirctions

In 14 days, my happy ass will be on a plane headed for North Carolina. Hubby and I are having a hell of a time finding a place to live. A lot has to do with our dogs. The 2 big dogs are over 50lbs... that right there eliminated 90% of our rental options. Another problem has a lot to do with something called a breed restriction list... that's right, the state of North Carolina believes that we should punish an entire breed for something that one badly trained dog did. My youngest dog, Booker is a German Short-Haired Pointer mix with a Pit Bull. Ask anyone who has been around him, he is the sweetest, most mild mannered dog but because he is half pit, some believe that he must absolutely be violent and uncontrollable.

Any time I hear someone argue the cause of breed restrictions, I get steam coming out of my ears, angry! If you are the type of person who believes that pit bulls are inherently violent I urge you to do some research! Just because you neighbors best friends brother, got bit by a pit bull whose owner was a complete moron, doesn't mean that the entire breed should be punished! Hell, a few years ago I was at a friends house and her tiny Yorkie kept biting peoples ankles and occasionally drew a little blood. You don't see me going up in arms about what a horrible breed Yorkshire's are, you know why, because a lot of the fault of that dogs behavior fell on my friend. She let her dog continue this behavior all night, sometimes even encouraging it by laughing and saying "Haha my puppy got you too"! Dumb people should not be allowed to own dogs(see below picture for proof), therefore I am a strong supporter of punishing the owner for the dogs deed. Even if you don't have a pet that is affected by breed restrictions, I urge you to look into the laws in your state and stand up for what is right. Booker is part of my family and I love him very much. He is a good dog who deserves more respect then being categorized as violent because of his breed.

Please take the time to visit the websites below and do a little research. You may be very surprised at what you learn. I know that I was!

Uneventful Week

So this week had been relatively boring. Just working. Hubby has been home sick all week which means he is acting borderline pathetic, but then again most men act that way when their sick.

Our move to North Carolina is quickly approaching (21 days) and to say that I am nervous is an understatement. It feels like I should be doing a million things to get ready but I can't seem to think of a single thing that needs to be done. Right now my only concern is finding a place to rent. Its coming down to the wire and I can't seem to find a good place and the fact that we have three dogs isn't helping our situation. We are sad about it but it looks like we may have to board our pups until we buy a house of our own.

I will keep up-to-date with all the details of our upcoming move... I am sure its going to be full of happy and crappy surprises.

Mom, margaritas, and motorcycles... among other things.

On the 24th of November, my mom flew to Hawaii to vist me and spend Thanksgiving with my husband and I. The last time I saw my mom was over a year ago when I went back to Michigan for my grandfathers funeral.

Thanksgiving in my house is quite the gathering. I am in the Navy so I know plenty of young sailors and marines who aren't able to go home for the holidays. My husband and I host a large dinner every year for any who wants to attend. On average I usually feed 15-20 people every year. Its alot of work but I don't mind because I love cooking and I love to watch people enjoy my cooking! This year I did have some minor difficulties with my turkey. Appernelty it wasn't completely thawed so it took an extra hour to cook but thanks to Reynolds Ovan Bags, it didn't dry out and was still super delisious.

After Thanksgiving I had a few days to chill with my mom. We did a lot of shopping which I really needed to do. At the end of this month, the hubby and I are moving to North Carolina so I need to start collecting warmer clothing. I have lived in Hawaii for 6 years and all I have are a few hoodies and a couple pairs of jeans... that is the extent of my warm clothing, I don't even have a coat.

Lets see... other things that happed last week... Oh yeah I re-enlisted in the Navy for 3 more years...go me! It was actually pretty great because my mom and husband got to witness it and be a part of my ceremony. I signed my re-enlistment contract in the same spot the the Japan surrenderd to the US in WWII, The Surrender Deck on board the USS Missouri.

The rest of my week was spent with my mom sitting by a pool in Waikiki drinking margaritas (our bonding drink of choice). We caught some rays and we had some good laughs and good buzzes. To finish up my awesome week, my family gave back to the community while doing something we love! Every year for the last 36 years, motorcyclist have been coming together to collect toys for the annual Street Bikers United Toys for Tots run. During the run, thousands of motorcycles rumble down the streets of Waikiki to deliver their donated toys. It is a sight to see! If you were in attendance you would have seen men with beards, tattoos and leather vests with barbies and teddy bears strapped to their bikes, anixous to make there donation.

The Toys for Tots run is something my husband and I look forward to every year and I am sad to say that this was our last year. We have our fingers crossed in hopes that we will find something similar to this when we get to North Carolina!
